Suzanne L. Hawkins Special Counsel
Suzanne practices in the areas of family law, professional licensing and defense, and special education.
She has extensive experience representing both school districts and parents in educational matters. She began her legal career at Protection & Advocacy, where she was statewide coordinator of the agency’s special education advocacy, and later worked with Duff, White and Boykin and as special counsel at Rosen Rosen & Hagood in Charleston, handling exclusively school district matters.
Suzanne was a prosecutor at the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation for more than five years, handling disciplinary matters for the agency’s licensing boards. She has defended licensees in disciplinary and licensing matters since launching her solo practice, Hawkins Law, in 2014. In her solo practice she has practiced primarily in family court and has represented hundreds of clients in all matters handled by the family court, including custody matters, divorces, DSS investigations, and adoptions.
Suzanne holds a Bachelor’s Degree, cum laude, from Clemson University in English and Political Science, where she was vice-president of the Sigma Tau Delta English Honor Society. She received her law degree from Wake Forest University in 1997. At Wake Law she was vice-president of Women in Law and a volunteer with the Domestic Violence Advocacy Clinic.
Suzanne is from Lugoff, South Carolina and is a proud product of Kershaw County public schools. She is a lifelong Clemson football fan, a foodie, and an avid runner.
